Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

I am President of a small not-for-profit corporation in Illinois. My organization has been threatened with a lawsuit to collect an amount which I don't believe we owe. If they sue, can I file an answer and represent the company, or do I have to hire a lawyer?

It depends on the amount. If is over $2,500, I believe, you must hire an attorney
