Illinois is expanding to allow for owners of firearms from other states to bring those firearms into Illinois but with limitations. Practically speaking, most officers will still arrest an out-of-state individual in Illinois without a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID).
Additionally, there are requirements for how the firearm must be carried and traveled with. The firearm must be broken down into non-functioning parts, the ammunition must be removed, it must be in a case and, if driving, it must be inaccessible to the driver.
