Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
A doctor asked my husband for a favor. He asked if he could write him a painkiller (Oxycontin) prescription, have him buy the drugs using my husband's own insurance, then the doctor buy back from him. My husband did not suspect anything and agreed to it. He also did not benefit from this transaction; he truly thought that he was doing this doctor friend a favor. The doctor paid back the exact cost of the drugs to my husband, which was about $23. When I found out, I asked to get the prescription bottle with my husband's name back from him. He said that he had already discarded it. My husband is a very healthy individual. Will our insurance company suspect anything? How can we protect ourselves by having participated in this illegal activity? He said he takes the drug himself but very slowly; no risks and no repercussion to us. What should we do? Please help us.

Your husband has participated in what sounds like criminal activity. You can just let it go and hope it never comes back to bite you or turn in the friend to the authorities, but realizing your husband will likely be charged as an accessory.
