Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Felony
Got a drug felony in 1985, trying to get it sealed. Have not had any problems with the law since. I have a job(truck drive 18 wheeler). Trying to get in the union. Need to have my record seal.

Re: Felony
Hello. Since you have a felony conviction you cannot have the file sealed in all likelihood. Any misdemeanors can be expunged, but not felonies. However, it is possible that you can get a pardon from the Governor of the State of Illinois. This is quite a process and timing is very important. It is necessary to appear before the Prisoner Review Board which meets a few times each year throughout the State of Illinois. This Board, upon hearing the facts concerning your conviction, will make a recommendation to the Governor. There is no guarantee as to when the Governor will make a decision. Currently there is no limit to the number of times a person can seek a pardon when turned down. Will be happy to discuss this further and in more detail. I hope my comments have been helpful.
