Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
I was just fired for suspicion of fraud and identity theft from my job yesterday. I worked as a store manager at a cell phone retail store. Multiple activations were done by me and have apparently turned up as stolen identities and fraudulent accounts without my knowledge. They are now holding me responsible and suspect that I was the one purposely committing the fraud. I was not! Customers were coming to me and activating lines and I had no idea that they were stolen identities. The main defense I have is that there is absolutely no motive for me to activate these lines since I don't get paid for them anyways, so there is no financial gain for me. I want advice as to what to do if they legally come after me for this. The evidence against me looks bad because all the activations were done under my name by me. I just need to know what to do.
