Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
Knowing your accuser?
My husband is a veteran receiving disability. He is 70% disabled but with the VA they make it 100% because of UI. Someone sent a letter to the Dept. of Veterans Affairs saying he is working full time - we had a investigator show up at our house - and they are investing him now. I am his wife - I own my 2 tax offices - my husband answers the phone in my 1 office, meets with some clients and prepares some easy tax returns. He is paid no compensation. And he told them that - they are requesting thru subpoena's all my clients, names, addresses, phone numbers, and what fees were charged and what services were provided. They are going to hurt my business by contacting the clients and shouldn't my husband have the right to know who wrote the letter to stir up this trouble?

Re: Knowing your accuser?
This is not a criminal case, there are special rules that apply to veteran's benefits and I am not personally knowledgeable in them.
I recommend that you (a) re-post this question in the military law category and (b) get a lawyer who knows about veterans benefits. If you do not know how to find one, try using this site, google, or attorneypages. Good luck.
Re: Knowing your accuser?
No. Your husband has no right to know who made the allegation at this point. If criminal charges are brought, then he may be able to determine that individual.
