Legal Question in Criminal Law in Illinois
The question is about my 2nd amendment rights. I got in trouble when I was young. As most states attorney's do, I feel I was rail roaded into a guilty plea with out fully understanding the consequences of what I was pleading guilty to. I was convicted of a class 4 felony almost 25 years ago. I have since lived by and followed all the laws of IL. So if my debt has been repaid to society both monetarily and probation, community service, time passed ect, ect. Why can I not own a firearm? Why if my debt is paid to society am I still being punished for something I did almost 25 years ago? I have never been able to get a job with a top company because of background checks so I've had to settle for jobs that pay less and has made my family go without because of my past. Why must people have to pay the rest of their lives for one or two stupid thing that they did in their youth?
Thank you.

it is possible to have your arrest record and conviction sealed, expunged or seek an executive clemency.
