The most common reason why an open count exists when it comes to drug charges occurs when the police or state's attorney has not determined the contents of the suspected drugs which were confiscated. The suspected drugs need to be sent to the Illinois State Forensic Laboratory for analysis to determine what the drugs are.
You most likely have an open count because the state has not determined what drugs they found on you.
