Legal Question in Entertainment Law in Illinois

Use of your voice in a song without your permission

Question - Can a recording artist use your voice in a song on a cd that was distributed without your consent? A former friend used a voicemail message that my husband left for him from 8 months ago and spliced it into a ''rap'' song. Is this legal? Or did my husband give him some sort of implied permission to use it as he wishes by leaving it on his voicemail in the first place? Thank you.

Re: Use of your voice in a song without your permission

Hello. In my opinion your husband has a lawsuit

against the recording artist for using his voice

to make a profit. Your husband should be entitled to receive a portion of the profits from

the recording since it is his voice. The artist

certainly should have obtained your husband's

written permission. I will be happy to answer

any additional questions that you might have.

There are other issues you should be aware of.
