In a divorce, can a judge give an older sibling possession of a minor child when both parents are alive?

Yes, depending on the state of affairs of the parties. Obviously there are mnany undsiclosed factys trhe court took into consideration when is awarded possession or custody of the minors to an older sibling. The court could add the siblibng as a party and award that party the minor(s).
