Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois
My late husband was very well connected to the legal community. I mean every judge every attorney in my county knew him. His attorney in the divorce is also very well known in the legal community. Every judge knows them. If not in divorce court, then in probate and every other type of case. In fact, my husband was an associate and had been in the same office with the chief judge on custody in my county, In fact this judge is in charge of custody in the entire area in my county. My husband and this person were very good friends. So how do I find an attorney to represent me in this county? Every attorney is going to be associated somehow to either the custody judge, or my husband's law partners. they are all interconnected. Not only that, my husband was working for the legal aid in the area when we first got married and has a ton of associates in that area. Where do I go for legal assistance and representation?
1 Answer from Attorneys
You haven't really asked a legal question so I don't know what the matter is that you are seeking representation for. Your zipcode reflects that you live in Cook County, Hyde Park, specifically. Right now there are over 40,000 attorneys in Cook County and I can guarantee you that not everyone knew your late husband, whoever he was. While Judge Evans lives in Hyde Park, not every attorney who practices in Hyde Park knows him personally though they may know of him. If you feel more comfortable, hire an attorney from the Northside or a Northern or Western suburb. Just because an attorney may have known your late husband or members of his firm does not mean that they won't give you adequate representation. If it is a probate matter, since your ex-husband is now deceased, I assume that you are suing the Estate on behalf of your children. There is no reason under those circumstances to believe that an attorney will treat you negatively because of who your husband was. Good Luck.
