Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

paternity

I got a girl who is married to someone else pregnant 3 months ago. she moved in with me and left her 2 year old with her parents but then she left me after 1 month with no reason but i suspect its because she couldn't live apart from her son. her family wont let her talk to me but i heard her husband wants to raise the child with her. If dna says I'm the father after the baby is born, will i have any problems getting significant visitation time and joint custody based on other cases like this? also, is there a legal way i can get notified about Dr. visits and when she has the baby ? Im worried that the husband is going to do everything possible to keep me out of my child's life so he can try to fix their marriage. I'm worried that the pressure from him and her family might turn her against me as well. I want to be in my child's life and I have no problem with support etc.

Re: paternity

I have had a couple of cases like yours (believe it or not) and I can tell you the key is to assert your rights as early as possible. You do have a lot of rights as the biological father, but you will lose them real fast if the court feels you did not take a role early on. So by filing the appropriate petition, and claiming you are the father, we can force a DNA test as soon as the child is born, and then we take it from there. Let me know if you have any other questions.
