Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

My sons father hasn't had anything to do with him in 18 months and I just found out he moved out of state. I want to know if I can get him on abandonment or how can I get his rights taken away.

The only way that I know of for someone to lose parental rights, is for a spouse or grandparent to legally adopt the child. The process of adoption can be quite rigorous and tedious, so it is best to hire an attorney to assist you and your new spouse with the adoption.
