Legal Question in Family Law in Illinois

Years ago my brother -in-law took his own life. At that time he had a 6 month old daughter. Now that 6 month old is 10 and her mom just got married. The 10 yr old wants to change her last name to that of her newly married moms. However, the dads side (The deceased) wants her to keep the name of her father. What if any advice or route can be taken to prevent the name change?

You have minimal rights, of any. A court will give Mom the right to do as she sees fit.
