Legal Question in Medical Leave in Illinois
I do not qualify for the FMLA leave since I will be with my current company for less than a year. I do, however, qualify for the 6 weeks under Short Term Disability. With the new FMLA passed in Illinois, am I eligible for the additional 6 weeks for bonding time? I work for a national corporation and was told that any Federal Law will supersede any State Laws.

I don't know what you mean by "the new FMLA passed in Illinois." There is no state equivalent in IL that provides similar protections as the FMLA. You mentioned that you are pregnant so I am wondering if you are referring to the Pregnancy Accommodation Act signed into law last year by Governor Quinn. That law provides that an employer should explore reasonable accommodation with a pregnant employee so she is not forced to take leave when she does not want to. My suggestion is that you engage experienced counsel to get specific advice for your situation. Many of us practicing in this area are happy to provide an initial evaluation by phone or email.
