Not sure you have any chance of recovery here since you state you purchased teh car "as is." That tells me the buyer gave you no warranty or made representations of the car's quality that would allow you to now recover for this problem.
Another point to consider is how much you paid for the vehicle. For example, if you only paid $500 for a car with 200,000 miles, then you should probably expect the vehicle had issues. On the other hand, if the vehicle only had 500 miles on it and was a 2010 model year, then there may have been some potentially deceptive sales practices made at the time of the sale. As the other attorneys have pointed out, an 'as is' sale generally means exactly what it says. Caveat emptor.
