Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
Personal Property
Upon my mother's suggestion, I let her store my military uniforms and other military memorabelia. We had a dispute and since then I joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars(I am a Desert Storm Veteran) and need my uniforms back to perform Military Rites at funerals. She wil not give me the uniforms or any thing else back, and to further worsen matters my brother and his wife who are living with my mother said they will destroy my property. How can I legally get my possesions back? Thank You!

Re: Personal Property
I suggest the first thing you do is to talk to your mom and find out what has caused her to act this way. Perhaps all you need to say is you are sorry for what caused the disagreement in the first place.
If that is not an option then I suggest filing a police report and have the police speak to your mom. State on there that your mom is holding your personal property and refusing to give it back to you for no valid reason. You will have no problem proving the items to be yours. I know getting the police involved may complicate the matters even more but that is the quickest way to get the matter resolved.
