Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
Hi, I received a check FedExed to me from a company I never heard of addressed to me. Not sure what the check is for. Can I legally deposit it or do I need to find out why this was sent to me?

You can cash the check if it is payable to you. However, read the reverse and front very carefully to confirm that you are not subscribing to any kind of program by endorsement. Also, keep in mind that your banking information may be on that check if you cash it, therefore, possibly proividing private information that you prefer not to give. It might be best to cash it at a currency exchange.
Be careful here. Their are a lot of scams involving this very scenario out there.
Be aware that if you deposit the check and withdraw funds and later the check does not clear, you will be responsible for paying the Bank back.
