Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
Reduce/Change suit amount to $5000 for Small Claims Status
I filed a Pro se suit for $15,000. Can I change the amount to $5,000 in order to qualify for small claims status - avoiding some of the 'regular court' rules etc.
If so, how do I proceed? What form should I file?
Thank you.

Yes. You can do that. All you need to do is to make a motion before the court entitled: Motion to reduce ad demnum. In it ask the court to change the ad demnum from 15k to 5k instanter. Once the court has granted your motion, then you can proceed under small claims rules. If you have any questions, call me at (312)372-4252. Good luck.
