Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois
strange employment termination issue
I accepted a position with verbal agreement for training 6mos. 2 days after starting, hiring mgr left and training was inadequate. At 2mos.interim mgr tells me I am transfering to other dept. and can transfer back later. I ask for other department. He leaves messages stating waiting on other department mgr (vacationing) to return call. Meet w/HR, state I have a job. (Security badge still works). Later call and say I had been fired a month prior, but no paperwork, backdated canceled insurance. 15Nov, they tell me I've had insurance until end of nov. for the misunderstanding. Now, I've paid my share of PPO for 2mos w/out knowing I even had insurance. I know Il. is at will, but doesn't someone have to actually tell you your terminated? Do I have any chance of taking to small claims for anything?
Thanks for your opinion.

Re: strange employment termination issue
At the very least you are entitled to any moneys you have paid for insurance when you were not covered by the same.
I do not see much else you can do--if you have tangible damages because they failed to tell you about your termination, then you can claim that as damage as well. For example, if you turned down a job offer beased on the fact that you thought you were employed then there is a loss that you may be able to recover.
I hope this helps,
