Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Illinois

Website causing harassment, defamation, and libel

An Internet ''vigilante justice'' organization has set out to defame me, posting (provably) false accusations to a website along with personal information, including illegally copied photo(s) of me, and contacting friends and family members in my personal life to slander me and direct them to the libelous content. I fear they will begin contacting employers and/or my landlord next.

I am having trouble finding a lawyer who will take my case due to various reasons (out of county, doesn't do defamation or libel, cannot take on a case against an organization with members across the United States and the U.K., etc.) How can I go about finding a lawyer to take my case? What are my options if I can't find a lawyer, and how best do I protect my reputation and my livelihood?

Re: Website causing harassment, defamation, and libel

My office has handled this sort of cases before. However, this is not a type of case that is handled on a contingency basis. It will cost you a lot of money to pursue whomever is defaming you. Suing people located in UK is not impossible--it may be hard and costly, but not impossible.

I'll be happy to talk to you about the costs involved and whether knowing that it still make sense to do anything.

I hope this helps,

Taradji
