Legal Question in Insurance Law in Illinois
I live in Joliet,Il and on May 27th 2011 I had a house fire that was caused by a friend. I had renters insurance from a well known insurance company and have been sent in circles. I found out from my insurance company that the friend who caused the fire had a $21000 policy and was paid a week after the fire. No one contacted me about the fire meaning her insurance company to ask me if she resided there or anything. They didn't contact the owners of the property to even see if the girl stayed there. So with that being said my insurance company is wanting every piece of information from me asking for tax documents, background checks, receipts of everything we had when it was a house fire so how would we have receipts, to prove that the things in the house was ours. Also the agent on my case stated she wanted to prove that we could afford the things that was in our house, which I thought was way out of line. But what I am asking is there any way I can go after the insurance company that paid out the policy to the girl that and has caused my family a lot of problems with everything that has happened. We are going back and forth with my insurance company with providing information to them and doing sworn statements on the phone and in person. Also the girl's insurance company has just now asked me to do a recorded conversation about the girl after it has already been a month and after they have already paid her. I need help please. Thank you
