Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
The current legal definition of discrimination does not include persons with tattoos. I was scheduled for an interview with a company and before they even asked my name they said they wouldn't hire me because I have a forearm tattoo. My tattoo is not offensive or vulgar. Why is it okay for a company to not hire someone because of tattoos but not because of religion. Both are personal choices that reflect who they are on a emotional, personal and spiritual level.

It's very simple--because the legislature has not passed a law creating the display of tattoos as a protected class. If the tattoo, however, displays a religious symbol and the failure to hire is based on expressive religious conduct (tattoo of a cross) you might have a thin argument. Sorry.
