A discharged employee is spreading rumors and half-truth's about me in the community. How can I make this stop?

You used the term "half truth." Defamation is found when someone publishes (says or writes) something about you that is false and presumably deragatory. I think the best way to handle this is to write a note to the former employee asking him/her to cease what they are saying about you.
