employment law question for the state of illinios,,
i work for a company that has just changed there vacation policy to that of 80 hrs per yr, before the change the company it set up to were you could acrew 120 hrs per year, all are checks show we had los of extra hrs still left for the yr,, but when they made the change they said that no one would be paid for any of the extra hrs that are checks showed we have avalible to us,,,they claim that no one was ever alowed to take more than 80 hrs ever but for over 15 yrs many employees were takeing 80 -110 hrs of vacation and being paid for the time, and now when asked about all the remaining hrs that we had b4 the change over they said they went back too everyones starting yr of employment n that anyone that had used over 80 yrs they were counting that against us can a company go back yrs n say they didnt know they were letting people take over 80 hrs n payng them go back n say the employees were paid for hrs they shouldnt have been given when there sysytem was set up too were ur max hrs were 120 yrs a yr for vacation??//

the company sets the time clock to start tracking ur working hrs at 830 but yet we are told too clock in at 8 am n start getting are work together for the day but when we clock out at 500pm the time clock shows only 8 hrs of work when were really working a 9 hr day n many people dont even take a lunch but they still take it out of are pay no matter what n they tell us that it doesnt matter if we take a lunch or not that they can still take that 30 mins from ur pay n that even tho we clock in 30 mins early they dont have to pay us because thats not work time ,, what can be done about not being paid for are work hrs??

can a employer make employees pay for things broken or damage n take it right out of are pay with nothing in writeing ??? things that should be reported too company insurance company are not being done but they in turn tell us we have too pay for what ever they say ,,

company sells applainces that the manufacture tells them too scrap or destroy is this illegal???

I will answer your questions in the order in which you asked them:
Q1: generally, a company cannot require you to forfeit accrued vacation time. Earned/accrued vacation time is considered wages in Illinois;
Q2:this is a blatant violation of state and federal law. An employer can round up or round down time that is de minimus but that is not the case here;
Q3: IL law prohibits an employer from doing what you describe;
Q4: i believe this practice violates consumer protection laws and puts you in the category of a whistleblower if you protest this practice.
