in illinois i have a part time employee who works 30 hours a week. if i terminate them can they file for unemployment?

Yes they most certainly can. However, depending upon the reason for termination, you could protest the claim and potentially prevail. There are two main categories of protest when an employee has been fired: fired for theft in connection with the job or misconduct which the Illinois uninsurance code defines as a deliberate or willful violation of a reasonable rule or policy of employer that is repeated or has caused harm to the employer.
