Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

(Illinois) i work for a company who had us sign a confidentiality statement, it states we cant work for a vendor or anyone in the industry for 1 year after our employment is ceased no matter the reason. Would this stand in court if i went to open my own company but worked with a manufacture of one of their vendors? I am looking to start my own independent contractor. This would be to install equipment for the manufacture.

You are asking for a legal opinion that is beyond the purposes of Law Guru. First of all, what you describe is a restrictive covenant on competition. Second, you must also be concerned with the confidential information you have acquired from your present employer and determine what of that information is protected from disclosure by you to anyone outside the company. I would suggest you engage someone to thoroughly analyze your situation and provide you with a legal opinion as well as guidance. Our firm does this sort of work routinely. We are happy to discuss your specific situation with you privately.
