Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
A manager of a large department store announced that all employees must disclose their home address, email, phone number and month of birth in order to sign up for a program that is being offered to customers. After consulting the corporate offices, I was informed that the program was completely optional to customers AND employees. By forcing employees to disclose their personal information, did this store manager commit a crime?

Your employer should have all that info already.
The manager is correct.
If you want to join the program you must release the info. The manager did not say that you HAD to join, simply if you wish to, provide the info.
I don't understand how you were "forced" to join?
