Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

mandatory break time for customer service employees

Can you please tell me if a law was passed that says an employer must give people in the customer service field a 15 minute break for every 4 hours they work?

This is mainly being asked by people that work on phones all day giving customer sevice.

Re: mandatory break time for customer service employees

Illinois law does not provide for breasks. It does provide for a 20 minute unpaid meal period for all employees working at least a 7 1/2 hour shift, to begin no later than the beginning of the fifth hour of employment. Call the Illinois Department of Labor at 312/793-2808 for more information.
