Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
This morning we had a company meeting with director of nursing (Owner) and employee about patient's needed service.
So while we are in meeting with the owner our boss told us he need every one to be volunteered that include, (company drivers, nurses, office clerk, coordinator of physical therapy, oasis coordinator, and lobotomist.) They need a driver to drive a nurse to patient home to give a insulin to the patient early in morning from 7am to 9am, the reason nurses is needed a driver because they don't drive so the company owner every employee at the office needed to be volunteered (with out pay same with the nurse) and he ask one by one. and the first 2 employee question reason out. "I can't because i have to drive my children at their school" and the second employee reason " I can't i have to drop my sister at the school ", and she immediately blurted out after being politely declined that those who declined her request would be first on the list of those who, would be considered to stay at home.
As a summary she is threatening all those who would not volunteered (w/out pay) that they would top the list that would be sent home even they have lots of works at the office during office hours.
Take note we can only paid 9-5:30pm
And they only ask fore no pay hours from 7:00am to 9:00am.
So i ask you sir what are my choices? i just want this company to be equal to employee and to be respected it's like i am living in communism rules inside at the office. when i came out of the office i feel so freedom.

All employees performing services that benefit the employer must be paid. There is no such thing as "volunteering" for your for-profit employer. We are happy to discuss your concerns if you call or email us.
