Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
I put in a request form to take off work and they have not yet responded. Can I take off still? Can they fire me for taking off?

You can take off all the time you want. But don't expect your job to be waiting for you.
In Illinois your employer does not need a reason to fire you unless you have a contract for a stated term or the termination violates a specific law. Similarly, you do not need to give your employer notice if you want to quit. Going on an unapproved leave of absence could be viewed as quitting. You are not entitled to a job and if you plan to keep your job , you should follow your employer's rules on leaves of absence.
