Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I have a question about returning to work with a doctors note. Recently I checked myself into the hospital for depression and drinking to much. I sent my employer a fax (within 3 days) from my doctor telling them I was hospitalized with a discharge date unknown. I was discharged 4 days later but didn't return to work right away. I needed time and support with my family for treatment. I've since seen a psycologist and have a note from them saying I'm ok to return to work (13 days after discharge). My employer wants to know my discharge date and why I didn't return to work right away. I feel they are unhappy and want to terminate me now. Is this legal? Do they have a right to know my personal problems? Thank you.

Your employer has a right to know why you were absent from work. If you refuse to provide the requested information, your employer can legally terminate you.
