Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

recently was let go from my job... I was owed a bonus check and was told I would get 2 weeks pay.. When the Pcheck came in the mail the employer wrote by endorsing and depositing this check a will NOT file for unemployment... Is this legal?? I already filed before the check was written and I received it .. Will this have anything to do with my unemployment claim or can he take further action?? I live in Illinois

Endorse the check. Cross out the part about agreeing to waive unemployment and initial it. Then deposit the check in your bank. Your employer cannot condition receipt of earned wages (including bonus) upon you agreeing to waive your rights to file for unemployment. If you have any problems with unemployment, please feel free to contact our firm. We handle quite a bit of work in the area of unemployment benefits. Visit us at www.tsamislaw.com.
