Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois
A recently terminated disgruntled co-worker called an outside contracted employee(after she was fired)and reported an error (that I didn't even realize I had made)from 6 months ago.I ended up getting suspended for this by management(which is fine I understand)However, I found out my former co-worker also called outside people that I have an occasional working relationship with and possible future employment, that were in no way involved or would ever be affected by my mistake. The statement made about me was exaggerated. It seems like this person is trying to ruin my reputation and prohibit me from getting a job in the same field. I don't know why I'm being targeted, I had nothing to do with this persons termination.

This former co-worker is potentially interfering with your future job prospects. Depending on the information you have and to whom she has made the statements you describe, you can engage an attorney to write her a cease and desist letter. Many attorneys will charge a flat fee for something like this.
