Legal Question in Employment Law in Illinois

I work at a family-owned business. Throughout the store, they have both audio and video surveillance. The part that bothers me, is that they access it from not only the store office, but from their televisions at home and cell phones. Is this legal?

Video surveillance is generally allowed if the employer has informed you in advance that it intends to use such surveillance and you have consented by your continued employment. Video surveillance in afreas in which you would have an expectation of privacy is NOT allowed. Such recording is prohibited by viedo voyeurism laws. Audio surveillance, however, is far more problematic and could be the basis for criminal action against your employer. An inquiry into your specific situation is needed to thoroughly and accurately answer your question. We would be happy to speak with you by telephone.
