Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
i have an apartment occupied. its been 2 months since they paid rent. i am in the process of an eviction. they no longer have electricity. it was cut off today because they did not pay the bill. i am afraid they will use something and somethign may happen to them or their children. i do not want to be held accountable for any harm that my or may not happen to them since they did not pay the bill. but is it my responsibility to connect the electricity again?

I assume the electric company disconnected the service for non-payment and not you, correct? If the electric company disconnected the service, how can you re-connect the electricity? Are you planning to pay the tenants electric bill? Your responsibility is to have working smoke detectors and working carbon monoxide detectors.
