Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I went to apply for a apartment for rent. The landlord asked me how was my credit I told him nit good at all. He said have have you ever had any evictions I said no. Then he said here rake this rental application with you fill it out and fax it back to me today so I can start the process. An hour later he left a voice message on my phone saying we have to discuss my credit report there's some things he like to know about? First of all I never consented or agreed to a credit report. It wasn't even a credit report form just a rental application. He refuse to answer my call now when left that message on his voice mail. Is there anything I can do about this? This is another inquiry on my credit report.
