Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
Early leave
I rented a two bedroom apartment and signed a 1 year lease. Its been 5 months since I have been living there and now I have to leave the country for family emergency. How much in advance would I have to tell my landlord, and am I liable to pay rent for the whole year.

Re: Early leave
Unfortunately, you are usually liable for the whole year once you sign a lease.
You might consider asking your landlord to let you out early, but a better option would be finding someone to sublease from you. That way you can cover the rent for at least part of your trip. As far as notice, you don't need to give the landlord any notice that you are going on a long trip so long as you keep paying your rent.
