Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I live in Illinois. After I had a number of problems with my landlord, he finally wrote me an e-mail that stated he was amenable to immediate termination of my lease; that was in May 2009. At the time of receipt of this e-mail, I began looking for a home to purchase so I can move. I found a home and called my landlord on 9/8/09 to inform him that I purchased a house and will be leaving his rental on 10/31/09. My original lease would expire on 2/28/10. Since he wrote that email, am I out of my lease free and clear?

You should be able to get out of your lease because you have written confirmation from your land lord. Be sure to save all of your communications with the landlord.

It would not hurt to get a signed document staing your landlord is aware of you breaking your lease.

A lease is a contract and needs to be treated as one.
