Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois

I am renting a room from a lady who is renting the house. I signed no lease or any kind of agreement. She is telling me I can not have any company unless she does a back round check on them. She's had numerous people here I don't know. Is she allowed to do this??

You have (probably) an oral, month-to-month tenancy. While normally 30-days' notice is required for any change, you now have a heads' up that if you stay, those will be the new rules, and under the circumstances she may not understand this notice requirement but if you contest it, she could ask you to leave. And if you have nothing in writing there is a chance she could have the police become involved.
