Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Illinois
I wanted to lease office space in Chicago. Took the tour with Regis liked the office made application but before I could sign the lease was hit by a car. While recuperating, the office asked if I still needed the space, I did inform them I had not gone with another office but was merely healing. No monies have exchanged hands, NO business has taken place from that address, No service used, the office remains unused. 'Today I get an invoice for 3 months with demand for payment. Not understanding.

I am certain you must have received a bill due to a clerical error because you did say you did not sign the lease correct? Talk to the manager at the office for clarification and ask them to provide you with a lease with your signature on it. Since you never signed a lease, they will be unable to provide it of course. After your demand, they should see the error and make the proper adjustments. If you need any further assistance, call me at 312-372-5600.
If you didn't sign a lease, they would be hard pressed to bill you without some very clear confirmation that you had accepted the terms for the space, in writing. I tend to agree w/ Ms. Dockery that this could be an error. But if they claim it is NOT an error, time to get some legal help!
