Legal Question in Military Law in Illinois

Depression and the Army

I am A.W.O.L. from A.I.T. going on a month now. I suffer from depression and am not doing very well. I can not handle being in a training enviroment with this problem. I am a Reservist. I had enlisted the first time in 2003 and was discharged during infantry training. I thought i could make now but here i am again. As much as i want to be in the Army I just don't think i am capable, i have a hard enough time in the civilian world. How can i get out? Are there alternitives to training so i can get to my reserves unit faster and continue getting treatment? I can't deal with being ''confined''. I'm also consumed of thoughts of suicide, although i don't think i'd actually do something.

The military is not for everyone. However, you should return to your unit. You should also contact an attorney for assistance.

Being "AWOL" can develop into a very serious offense, like desertion. Military offenses are very different from civilian offenses. I spent 32 years in the military, the last 16 or so as a Judge Advocate General. So, I think that I can safely say that you need the assistance of a lawyer, sooner than later. If you wish to speak with me in the office, do call. Note that convictions for military offenses are quite harsh by civilian standards. Seems to me that this matter can, perhaps, be directed to a resolution by an administrative discharge board.
