Legal Question in Military Law in Illinois

IL National Guardsman Seeking Honorable/General Discharge

I've been enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard for one year and a half. I'm a sophomore in college, but am wanting to move to a different state and purse a law degree. I don't like being in the guard, and it conflicts with my beliefs. Is there anything I can do?

Re: IL National Guardsman Seeking Honorable/General Discharge

You can transfer to the national guard unit of another state if there is a guard unit in the area where you'll be going to school.

You have to attend drills and serve out your commitment if you don't want a black mark on your record.

If you are truly pursuing a law degree, becoming a JAG officer is a good possibility after you leave law school. These are non-combat positions and you would get some good trial experience.

Generally speaking you'll feel better about yourself if you stay and complete your commitment.
