US Soldier
If a private first class who has just completed advanced individual training (AIT) is away without leave over 30 days, what are the consequences. In addition, what is the best way to go about turning oneself into the Army in such situation?

This is a very serious situation. The soldier should immediately surrender to military control. This is best handled through an attorney who will see to it that your rights are protected.
If you are gone more than 30 days you can be charged with desertion. This is a very serious offense and can result in what amounts to a felony conviction.
The sooner the soldier goes back, the less severe the punishment is likely to be.

1. You'll be dropped from the rolls after 30 days, and quite possibly be declared a deserter.
2. People frequently get picked up on traffic tickets, and the police discover the warrant exists.
