Legal Question in Personal Injury in Illinois
My grandson was involved in an accident that caused $4100 to his classic 66 Chevy Caprice. The person who hit him (it was not his fault) received 2 tickets ... improper backing and no insurance. Since she is on SSI, can she be sued for damages? She stated at the scene to the police and in front of witnesses that she would pay for damages and now they are having to take her to court as she said she did not say that. She owns two properties which she inherited from her grandmother. Can she be made to pay for damages. My daughter only had liability on the Chevy as her son is only 17 and full coverage would have been out of the question therefore the insurance will not pay for repairs. In the meantime, here sits a beautiful car that he and his father have worked on for years until my grandson was old enough to drive and now this idiot comes along and because she was arguing with her boyfriend, throws her old van in reverse and smashes the entire front end of the the Chevy.

Being on SSI does not make her immune to a lawsuit. She can be made to pay for the damages.
