The insurance company will hire a law firm and will provide you a defense-that is part of your contract. Some policies, provides for you to hire an attorney to look over what the insurance attorney does at the insurance expense. Read your policy see what it says.

Even if the insurance does not pay for an attorney you decide to hire, it may not be a bad idea to have one look over what the insurance attorney is doing--specially if there is a chance of getting a judgment in excess of the policy limits.
