Water Damage by defective Ice Maker

I installed a new ice maker in my basement late last year. After approximately 6 months and still under warranty, the ice maker started leaking due to a defective part. This resulted in over an inch of water in my basement in a matter of a few hours. Fortunately, we caught it quickly and the damage was minimized. However, it still caused over $1500 in clean up costs to remove the water and dry out the carpet. The manufacturer has come and repaired the unit, but they are ignoring me on my claim for them to pay for the clean up costs. I sent an email to the manufacturer 3 months ago outlining my damages and asking for them to pay for the damages. Follow-up emails and numerous voice mail messages have gone unanswered. I know my insurance could pay for this, but my deductible is still $1,000. What are my options for trying to get the manufacturer to pay for the damages?

You are between a rock and hard place.

Your only option, if all your attempts to talk reason with the manufacturer has gone unanswered, is to sue them. But it will probably costs you about $1000 to sue them when all is said and done.

It may be easier to just let go because there is no way you will be able to be made whole again.
