i am allowed to protest in front of a building as long as i am not on their property?

Chicago has a public ordinance that creates a "protest" bubble. How far away you have to be from a building depends on the type of building you are seeking to protest outside of. For more information, please take a look at the Municipal Code of Chicago, section 8-4-010 Disorderly conduct.

As demonstrated by the Supreme Court hearing the case of Snyder v. Westboro Baptist Church, there is no way to give you a "yes or no" answer based on the limited facts you provide. What is the nature of your protest, who are you protesting, when are you protesting, how are you protesting, etc., etc., etc.?
