Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I am an apartment renter in Illinois. All renters, including me, received a letter in the begining of April that said they wanted to adopt a new lease and raise our rent x amount depending on unit size effective June 1st. The letter stated that they'd have a copy of the new lease available for review during April, and have the actual copy to be signed begining in May. They didn't even have a lease to review, let along sign when I went in to pay rent at the begining of May. We have not had a phone call, or any correspondence on this since. We're fast aproaching June, and no word from them whether there is a adopted lease to be signed. They ususally do 1 year leases. My current lease doesn't expire until the end of September. Is it even legal for them to adopt a new lease, and raise rent in the middle of a current lease?... And if legal... Do I stick to current rent payment for June if they don't contact me and have me sign a new lease by May 31st?

Without having the documents to review, my answer is speculative. Generally, if there is a written lease for a year, the rent does not go up during that year.

it depends on what your current lease says about renewal. but you are under no obligation to renew with the landlord, you can always move when your current lease expires.
