Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

damage during a move

The movers we used damaged more

than half of our furniture-gauges,

knicks, scratches. The furniture was

rather expensive, actual cost around

$20,000. The furniture is still

usable, but much of the damage is

obvious and not fixable- can't fix

indentations and deep gouges. They

offered less than $500 for the

damage, but we don't accept that.

We even paid for the ''extra''

insurance. What sort of

compensation could be expected if we

sued them?

Re: damage during a move

Compensation would be based on the value of the furniture without damage

as compared to the value with damage. You will probably need an appraiser. Good luck.
